« on: Thursday 07 November 13 12:53 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help with a book I'm about to compile about Leitholm's WW1 casualties.
The names are:
John Bloomfield Gough
William Norris
Edward Armfield Marrow
John Dawson
Norman B Watson
William Fairgrieve
Arnold Robinson
Robert Lillie
Robert Dodds
Owen Gough
John M Watson
George Douglas
Rupert Gough
William E Watson
Martin Hunter.
Photos would be excellant!

Have you looked through the CWGC site? They often have crumbs of information. Ancestry also has "Soldiers who died in the Great War", which often has other info on the Army. Navy people are harder to track.....

Hello Lezley
Yes I have gone onto the CWG website.  Very useful for telling us when and where they were killed. I'll try the other site you suggest.  thanks for the reply.

I think a lot of the info that is generally available has likely already been collated in sites such as www.coldstreamhistorysociety.co.uk/index.php/war-memorials/memorial/C20

There is also the other great site http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/warmemscot-ftopic640.html

Helen, are you hoping to gather further info, likely for descendants etc...?

Monica

thanks for the info Monica, I will try those sites.  I thought a small book to sell in aid of Help for Heros and to commemorate 100 years next year, that sort of thing.  I think the villagers would be interested in any 'meat' I can put on the bones of the names on the memorial, especially if they lived round about the village.  I am finding most of them were farmboys, with one or two being from notable families in the area.  Interesting stuff!
