What year did John & Catherine marry?  What was her maiden name?

Whereabouts in Durham was William born?

Quote
catherine hayward
  1881 shows her as Katherine

Doing a reasonable date search for a birth in County Durham gives a William Hayward born December quarter 1878? Might this be him?

Hi
Glad that's the correct birth. My suggestion was that he wasn't therefore born c 1879 but his birth was registered December 1878 and therefore the baptism, if there was one , could have been anytime from the later part of 1878 onwards. If you have the birth certificate, it will also give an area of birth and therefore an area to start your search, although some children were and are not baptised immediately. One of my lines 'saved them up' and got 4 children done at once!
