No connections but
Miss   Alice   LEATHEM Magheralin   married Thomas Emberson 19 Apr 1824 at Magheralin Church of Ireland   PR  source http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/L/LeaLem.htm

Alfred Leathem age 17 was in lodgings at  8 in Ballymacbredan (Magheralin, Down)
see the irish census 1901 for more info.

My suggestion for further records is to check the civil parishes surrounding Magharalin in Ros Davies website ie there are many in Donaghcloney,inc Waringstown some in Moira, possibly Shankill in Co Down,and those neighbours in Co Armagh

I do hope you looked up Ros Davies, I had missed William LEATHAM.  Moira son of Joshua Leathem (a weaver of Ballymacateer); aged 22 married Ann Hanna 24 Sep 1852 at Shankill Church of Ireland ; father of Moses b. 8 Jun 1865 & John b. 26 May 1868 & John b. 20 Jul 1873 CR

Loking at familysearch.com Moses Leatham married Mary Connor 26 Dec 1865
Event Place:  Maheralin, Down, Ireland Father's Name:  Joshua Leatham.  Spouse's Father's Name:  Joseph Connor .   Moses children are on familysearch..

but I cant find Joshua’s birth or marriage  I would explore waringstown Church of Ireland, however there is at least another catholic family in the parish by 1911, so keep your options open PRONI has

From http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ Joshua Leathem has 2 entries in 1864, both are in the townland of Ballymacateer with house offices and a very small amount of land but the house is valued at £1.15 compared to the lowest 10 shillings . it has a map reference 25a which shows a L shaped property. There are a couple of L shaped properties on Google maps 2 kilmetres SWof Magheralin on the Dromore Road, to the west of the junction with Springfield Road, and on the north side of the Dromore road say 300 metres from the junction.   I think the reason the property has two entries because of the Landlord being two people Henry and Hugh Mercer. I did not find a second entry in the list for the townland.  So it may be your homestead still exists.

You ask about others living in Magheralin , lets say under 1000 in 1864 in the townland of Ballymacateer there are over 70. I extracted these from http://www.failteromhat.com/griffithsall.php a website that is so useful for many irish records Amerson, Alexander ;Anderson, Robert ; Bane, Thomas ; Bell, Esther  ; Berry,   Robert  ;

I believe my Leathem family is connected to Joshua Leathem in Ballymacteer. I have a Joshua Leathem born 1817 and married 1852.   This Joshua could be the son of Joshua Leathem in Ballymacteer.
