My Grandfather DANIELS John Thomas- Private WWI
« on: Monday 24 March 14 02:49 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather was originally in the 4th North Staffordshire Regiment his  army number was 22479.
However he was transferred to the 1st battalion East Lancashire infantry his army number changed to 29212, he fought France/Flanders   he died POW  1st April  1917 -
Can anyone help me to work out how the change of regiment came about as some of the information that I have researched has shown that the North Staffordshire Regiment was classed as Territorial Army would that have changed due to the start of the war??  There seems to be very little information on the North Staffordshire Regiment as I am interested to find  information on that area of his army records - I do have his East Lancashire records and medals but this part of his army service seems vague. Any assistance would be most appreciated

According to his medal card he received the British War & Victory Medals so didn't go overseas until at least 1916.
When did he transfer to the Lancs ?

1 John Thomas Daniels but he was in the W. Kent's.
Lots of John Daniels but we don't have a DOB or POB.

His records are on Ancestry but still unable to find out more about his service in the 4th North Staffordshire Reg. His DOB is 1890 stoke -on- trent Staffordshire.

Hi Trevor - His record is on Ancestry Under (Military)  his name and Burslem  stoke-on- trent  it states his Lancashire reg but not the North Staffordshire reg that we have from the records office but no other information, strange as I have just checked it out again but unable to find anything about the North Staffs Reg.
