Irish Marriages
« on: Saturday 02 August 14 09:46 BST (UK) »
My maternal gt grandparents Bernard SMITH and Ann CORR married 30th November 1860 at Ballylane Armagh

Would the original registers have the names of the parents ?

How can I find out ?

I am stuck as there are so many Bernard SMITHs  ???

No. This 1860 marriage took place in a church in the RC parish of Ballymacnab. I'm assuming you've seen a transcription of the marriage record on a website like RootsIreland?

Even civil marriage records (1864> for catholic marriages) only required father's name and occupation.

I have actually seen the mother's name mentioned in a marriage record (post civil registration), but exceedingly rare in my experience.

You will only ever get a fathers name on parish or civil marriage registers and RC marriages were not civilly registered until 1864, so you will only get it from parish record.
Have you tried the Cardinal Ó'Fiaich Library and Archive

Thank you very much for the replies

I have had a look at the site you give iluleah, hope it is still operational as it has not up dated since 2010 but I will give it a try :)

Thank you again
