Quinn, Michael about 1870
« on: Tuesday 19 February 13 13:38 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on my Great Grandfather Michael Quinn born about 1871 in Roscommon. He moved to the USA about 1888.  He had a brother who lived in Woollomoloo Australia. I don't know about any other siblings.  The Baptism record (and therefore parent information) we were led to appears to be wrong because it has a note about a marriage in Ireland after he was already living in the US.  Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

There are a few possible births on www.familysearch.org for Michael between 1869 and 1873
Tried to put a link to actual page but wouldn't work for some reason

Do you know his brother's name? - you could check for a birth/baptism to the same parents
Or do you have an indication of what his parent's names may have been? e.g. what he named his own children
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
Further generations:
Brophy Coleman Eathorn(e) Fahy Fitzpatrick Geraghty Haverty Keane Keogh Nowlan Rowe Walder

Hello and welcome to Rootschat  :)

Do you have him after his arrival? Were there any other Quinns with him? Sorry it is all questions but there is not much to go on.

The Michaels who are on Family Search for around the right time are here

They are maybe the ones which myluck refers to although I only searched 1870 to 1872.
Is the one you searched already here?

regards
heywood

I have him continuously from about 1900 through his death in New York City in 1953.  I know he had a relative in New Jersey with the surname of Kennedy. The husband was a police official I believe in the 1940s. Michael Married a girl from Roscommon who he met in the US. Her name was Bridget (Delia) Brady.

His U.S. marriage certificate is likely to list names of both parents which will help you serarch for information on the family in Irish records.

I only have a church certificate which does not list the parents.  I'm sending away to NJ in hopes of finding a marriage license. Could not find a record in any of the online searches I tried.

I don't think there's much online for New Jersey vital records which is probably why you didn't have any luck online. If you get more details add them to this topic and we'll try to help.
