Crinken
« on: Saturday 15 March 14 20:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi There

I have discovered that my 3 x Great Grandmother Esther Kavanagh (nee Fox) was born in 1827 in Crinken which is on the Dublin / Wicklow border. She was baptised under the 'Kingstown' Parish.

Has anyone any idea of what Crinken would show up as when looking for old records as there is not much online - other than stating that it's near Shankill and Bray ?!

Thanks

Tara

Thanks annclare

Yes, that's pretty much all there seems to be on the area online  :-\

I'm trying to work out what it may show up as on the likes of Tithes and Griffiths and old records like that as with just Crinken the only thing that is really coming up is the COI Church.

Thanks anyway for trying  ;D

Try Rathmichael Civil Parish- Crinken may not show up as a townland - The Dun Laoghaire /Rathdown boundary goes as far as Little Bray today so it may well be that Crinken was in Rathmichael CP. However I just see a reference to a photograph from c. 1890 to 1910 for Crinken Co Wicklow. Not much help I'm afraid.

Hi Tara
I googled ''Crinken on map'' and was taken to Crinken Ln on street view.

Crinken Lane is just off the Road from Shankill to Bray before you come to Shanganagh House etc. But the name seems to relate to the old house Crinken House that was/is on the lane.

Looking at the old maps on OSImapviewer,
There is Crinken house and just north of that an small area marked Cricken just south of Sherrington as you move forward in time the name disappears from the maps, and than back again as Cricken Glen which is just off / north of Cricken Lane.

I see the spelling of Sherrington has changed to Cherrington.

Thanks Sinann

I reckon that the area was too small to have even been classed as a townland and that's probably why it's not coming up on GV or Tithes.
