Hello and welcome to Rootschat :)

This site is an excellent resource and I have been amazed by how helpful Rootschatters are. I hope you make some great discoveries as a result of it.

You will get the best results from the site if you ask a more specific question. I assume you have done some research on your family tree before? If not, no problem: we are all here to help.

The best thing to do is to ask a question about a particular ancestor who you would like to know more about. Tell us any dates and locations and what you would like to find out. Don't worry too much about posting on the correct board, the admin may move the post though so that more people see it. Have a browse around the site and you will see some examples of where Rootschat really comes into its own.

There is also a surnames interest section which can be found at the bottom of any page. Where did the Oneill and Walsh families come from?

Sorry to be waffling on and once again, welcome to Rootschat :)

Jack

A welcome from me too!

Just remember that Rootschat is not a forum for tracing living people. Make sure you dont put any names or details of anyone who may still be alive.

Thank you for welcoming me and for your replies.  I am specifically looking for Patrick and Philomena O'Neill who were my Grandparents.  My Grandfather was from Buncrana Donegal originally and met my Grandmother in Dublin after the WW1.  I am also interested in My Fathers side of the family specifically his Grandfather who I think may have been called John Walsh (he was brought up by his stepfather Harry Green.

Thanks again for your advice

Hello Monica

Thanks for the link but I don't think same family link unfortunately, I have had a look at the pictures and names and they don't tally with any family that I am aware of.

As you know we are not allowed discuss living people however in order to try and put a proper time frame on their ancestors what info have you got re addresses ,parents names, census returns etc your request is a bit vague at the moment, have you any certs ie birth marriage that would help trace them back.

Dathai.

Hello and welcome  ;)

It is difficult when we say don't post the names of living people but then ask for more information. ;)

We just don't want to offer information you already have - it is a waste of our searching.

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Buncrana/Buncrana/491753/.  Could this be Patrick?
Do you have  Philomena's maiden name or their marriage certificate?

Regards
Heywood

Have you got any dates.
Do you know what age and year your grandparents died? This would give an idea of when they were born.
For example there is a 9 year old Patrick O'Neill in Buncrana in 1911 who would be the right age to marry shortly after WWI.
Do you have any siblings names?
Why was your grandfather in Dublin what was his job? Was his wife from Dublin or there for work?
When was their eldest child born? This could help find their marriage.
Put together all the little bits of information you can.
