89th foot regiment in the crimean war

my ancestor faught in crimean war with 89th foot reg, 1854-56
and was born in east india in 1834 and died here in ireland in 1904.
i cant find anything of his birth but finally got his service no. but not much more
his name is peter hinchey  service no 3274 . any help please

There were two Peter Hinchey births registered by the army in Colombo Ceylon: one in 1827 (vol 1219 page 11) and one in 1831 (vol 1219 page 17). Both 97th regiment so it seems likely that the first one died in infancy.

It seems likely that the father was Peter Hinchey born Six Mile Bridge, Co Clare circa 1806 who served in the 97th from 1824 to 1839 and spent 11 years in Ceylon. His army discharge papers are on FindMyPast.

Your man's army discharge file is also on FindMyPast under the name Peter Hinchy. Born Ceylon. Served 3 months in Gibraltar, 1 year and 5 months in Crimea, 1 year in the Cape and 11 years 11  months in the East Indies
