Unknown Chandler
« on: Thursday 13 February 14 10:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Could I get a lookup please?
I'm seeking a male believed died between mid 1844 & mid 1847 forename unknown surname Chandler, could be in Ballymurn RC Wexford graveyard or Cantwells Memorial to the Dead.
I found plenty of the surname in Wexford Town and area ie Growtown,  so am assuming that general location would have been his original residence.
My guess is he would have been aged between 30 to 40 at time of death.
Thankyou kindly
Rodc

Cantwells Memorials do not have a Chandler in Ballymurn records.

St Johns cemetery Wexford;

erected by Patrick Chandler in memory of
his father; Philip Chandler; 8/6/1860 (70)
his mother; Mary; 18/2/1857 (65)
the above Captain Patrick Chandler; 14/1/1892 (73)
also his niece-Mary Farrell; 30/4/1894 (35)

Hi Jack,
Thanks for the info.
The focus has moved to Kilcock Kildare where it seems many Chandlers found a home sometime before the 1800's.
Wexford Chandlers have been eliminated as have most other branches due to occupations.
The one sought was a servant to a fairly high placed person and would have had to learn his craft by 'doing' in a setting that demonstrated such arts. So was likely born in a family that was into the hotel business: The Leinster Arms Inn seems to be the source.
Thanks again,
Rodc

There were people named Chandler living in Capagh (Kilcock District) who were caught stealing a bag of potatoes.
One of the family was hanged out of a cart on Chandler's Hill and some of the family were transported.
