William Bell and Mary Armstrong & Maxwell Bell

Wonder if anyone can help me out here? Researching a friend's tree, she has a Charles Bell born c 1838 who died on 27 April 1916 in Edinburgh. On his marriage record  in 1861 (to Elizabeth Cowie) it lists his parents as William Bell and Mary ms Armstrong (I think!). On his death record, mother's maiden name says Cairns.

I have been unable to find a death for either William or Mary who are listed as deceased by 1861. I can't find anything on IGI except for a William and Margaret and their family. Could these be the same people do you think?

Anyone who has these folk in their family line, it would be good to hear from you as I am stuck now.

Would also be interested to know where and when the name Maxwell (Crawford) Bell comes from as it appears a few generations down out of the blue!

Still struggling to locate this family on the census but have discovered in my scribbles that I have found Charles on 1891 census - but forgot to write down where he was born! Could someone see if they can find him for me and check please? My notes say address is Cockpen, he is an agricultural labourer living with wife Elizabeth and 7 of their children. Many thanks.

With thanks to Jacques on another thread, Charles was born in Dumfries. So I would think his family may hopefully be on 1841 census in this area.
