Cyril Hutfield help please
« on: Sunday 16 November 08 01:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello all

I was just wondering if anybody could help me with a birth in Portsmouth please?

I have found on Ancestry the birth of an ancestor named Cyril Leslie Hutfield born 1st Qtr 1908.

Im just wondering if somebody that lives local would be able to do me a lookup of his birth as im trying to find his fathers and mothers name.

Any help would be fantastic.

Hi Danny,

The registers of birth certificates are not open to public inspection, only the indexes.  Only if Cyril was baptised would anyone be able to find his parents names for certain and it would involve knowing at which church out of an awful lot this event took place.  :-\  The birth certificate is the surest way.

However, did Cyril have any siblings?  A Madge, Violet or a Daisy?

If so the mother's maiden name was Mitchell.

And if that is true, then the parents were:
Thomas Henry Hutfield and Harriet Ellen Mitchell, marriage registered Portsmouth RD Dec 1900 2b 1086

Hi
Hutfield is an unusual name/ spelling so with this situation you need to think  a little more laterally - after Jne 1911 the mother's name was added to the indexes so around this time it is a good idea to find a later sibling. I found in June 1912

Daisy D   (mothers name) Mitchell  Portsmouth 2b 711

Using FreeBMD I found the marriage of Thomas Henry Hutfield to Harriett Ellen Mitchell in Portsmouth
- 2b 1086

Not so easy if your name is Smith or Jones though......

Cyril did have 3 sisters named Daisy, Madge and Violet.

Hi

If you go onto the National Archives (Documents online) site - "Seamans Services" you will see that records are available for 2 or 3 Hutfields.
