Cottbus  may be Coblans ?

Cottbus and Koblenz are two different places.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cottbus
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koblenz which gives Coblence as the French equivelant.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Dear MonicaL
I have the 1861 census records for Andrew rap living with Ana Rap but try as I might I can't get them on the Scotlands People site, where I would be able to see the original entry and get more information.
Any ideas?

The closest I can see on SP is:

Andrew Ross 37 and Anna Ross 40 in Clyde/Glasgow. The entries are linked I think, just using the second name search too.

If the right entry, maybe really hard to read on the original image?

Monica

Added: There is no sign of an Andrew or Anna Ross on the 1861 census transcript, so certainly a possibility on SP.

MonicaL,
How ever did you find that? Did you use a wild card search or something?
Please let me into your secret as I would NEVER have found them under "Ross".
It is the right entry and in fact is clearly written as Rap. Unfortunately there is no more information on the original than on the Ancestry transcript.
Having read about the 1861 census on Scotlands people, I thought I might see more detail on the original.
Thank you thank you again!

You can use the wildcard of '*' when searching on SP so I searched simply as Andrew, second name Anna, in Clyde and surname of R*, up came that entry with Ross. Often the main new piece of info that you will get from the original image is the marital status of the people, something the transcript doesn't include. Also, it is always great to have original images too!

Just tried the wildcard to find the 1856 marriage between Andrew and Ana, but still no luck! Back to the drawing board!

That marriage is beyond the help of wildcards unfortunately  ::)
