Hello

My ancestor was William Fitzpatrick. He is located on the 1901 census as living in The Green, Fethard in Tipperary living with his wife Bridget and children Ellen, William, Frances, Gertrude, Bridget, Timothy, Edward, Thomas and Katie Fitzpatrick. Ellen is the oldest, born in 1880.

Could someone please help find a marriage record for William and Bridget. I have found a record for a William Fitzpatrick marrying in 1877

my thanks

Link to 1901 Census return for William and his family

As William was a RIC Pensioner and Bridget, and their eldest daughter Ellen, was born in Co. Cork I would suggest looking in Cork for the marriage

Link to 1911 census return
where William and Bridget state that they are 31 years married implying c1879/1880

There is a marriage of William FitzPATRICK to Bridget M'CARTHY in Cork in 1878
Civil Reference Cork Jul-Sep 1878 Volume 5 Page 99 which could be them

Then this looks like Ellen's baptismal record in Cork in 1879

Purchasing the marriage certificate would allow you to confirm

Also, it mentions on the 1911 census that 9 of the 12 children are still living, does that mean 3 of them are dead by 1911?

thanks

It appears that William senior was born in Queens County (County Laois).

Tipperary is located on the south west boundary of County Laois.

It does appear that three of the children had died by 1911.

William was born in Queen's County which now known as Co. Laois

By looking up the RIC records you could locate some information on him

I would assume that 3 children were deceased
You can assume that one was Katie born c1884 aged 17 in 1901
as they named the youngest daughter Kathleen born c1904 aged 7 in 1911

You will have to do further searches to locate the others
Link to Civil record for birth of a Gertrude FitzPATRICK in 1895 in Cashel District
I looked at her as an unusual name
This would tie in with Fethard as an address
If you check on www.familysearch.org you may locate the others but be warned FitzPATRICK is a common name there

There are a couple of topics on this family now and much searching already done

Tipperary Topic with reference
Cork Topic
Laois Topic

Moderator: Perhaps the topic would be best in Ireland General to save repeated help being searched for and given

The baptism record for Ellen is correct because it lists her as 21 in the 1901 census. This census was taken in March 1901, Ellen was born in June, so in June 1901, after the census, she would be 22, making her 22 in 1901, subtract 22 from 1901 makes 1879
