I didn't receive notification of any replies and have just checked the topic to find you've been very busy! Many thanks for all that new information, I'll go over it and get back to you.

I have finally managed to interpret the very faint photocopy of the 1875 birth certificate of Elijah's daughter, Ann Adeline. Elijah's age is definitely '40 years' and his birthplace reads, 'Hickling, Norfolk, England'!

You found him! And of course, his younger brother Elisha.

I had found this marriage in Norfolk of a John Vincent which I thought might be their parents:

John VINCENT, alias WINSON, & Mary WRIGHT, married 24 December 1833.

But I see that you have found the marriage of a John VINCENT to a Mary KNIGHTS.

Elisha's 1897 death certificate does name his parents but his mother's surname doesn't seem to read as WRIGHT, although it does end in '...night'. The first letter could well be a 'K' and the word might well have a 's' on the end! So I think you've found the parents to both men.

And if the parents died in England I suspect I'll only need to search for the emigration of two young men rather than a family group.
