Archibald Hugh Ivey
« on: Friday 10 August 12 10:04 BST (UK) »
AM trying to find the forebears of one Archibald Hugh Ivey. The Hugh is sometimes spelt Heugh.
He was born in 1911 at Hedworth, Boldton Pontop Crossing, Boldon Colliery. Co Durham.

It is believed his father died and so he was sent to Australia in 1924 on the "Magnolia" disembarking at Fremantle West Aust where I am writing from.

Need help with parents and siblings and grandparents if possible. Could anyone please help me?

Cheers and thanks in anticipation.

Hyjean

Good morning
Not 100% but he could be the son of
Samuel Joseph Reginald Ivery born 1889 Bearpark Durham and Jessie 1891 ,brother Richard 1910.
They married Sunderland Mar 1909 10a 829 ,her name Jessie Hough Donaldson.
He was the son of Richard William  (born 1861 Menheniot cornwall) coal miner and Susanna Ivery( nee Barnett born 1852 Plumpton st Mary Devon).Siblings John W.Barnett  Ivery 1886 and Hilda 1892 both born in Durham.
He died in the Great War 24.4.1918 Gunner in action in the Royal Horse Artillery.
Jessie may  have remarried in 1935 Sunderland 10a 1595but there is also a death Jessie H Ivey Luton June 1957 age 70 4a 116.
Presumbably as a widow she just couldn't cope with her young children and that's why they where sent away.(I'm assuming they where part of the Home Children).
She was the daughter of Archibald (lab in a glassworks) and Elizabeth Donaldson born 1845 Scotland.Siblings Robert 1866 Bathgate,James 1870 Bathgate,Archibald 1871 ,Margaret 1874 Gateshead,Elizabeth 1878 Sunderland ,Embrie 1880 (son perhaps same as Lawrence),Lawrence J 1880 sunderland,John 1882and Andrew 1885.Mother Elizabeth died sometime between 1891 and 1901

Hi there,
One last thing I missed ,sisters Jessie Ivey and Sussanna M
Sussanna M Ivey South Shields June 1914 10a 1933
Jessie Ivey sunderland 10a 1118 Dec 1917 mother's maiden name Donaldson
And you might as well have the other birth Reg.
Richard William Ivey June 1909 South Shields 10a 969
Archibold H Ivey June 1911 South Shields 10a 880
And I  did put his Dad's names the wrong way round.Poor Reginald was actually registered.
Joseph Samuel R Ivey  born Dec 1888 Durham 10a 334

Sorry about that but I was a bit pressed for time yesterday.

Archibold was probably born at "Pontop Crossing" as indicated by the 1911 Census. The place Pontop is in the northwest part of County Durham and the railway level crossing, near Boldon Colliery, in the northeast of County Durham, was originated by the Pontop and South Shields Railway Company. The railway had passenger service but was built mainly to transport coal from the Pontop area to South Shields to be placed on ships bound for other parts of England and for export. Boldon, Boldon Colliery and Pontop Crossing are featured on:

:D Thanks Ciderd for additional information and Barry for an overview of the area and website.
This sort of incite puts a story into context. Many thanks to you both. Have been overwhelmed by the generosity of all the good people who added to the narrative.

Cheers Hyjean :)
