Edward Cartey help
« on: Friday 22 August 14 10:48 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am struggling trying to find the parents of an Edward Cartey (Carty) and the earliest I can pick him up is the 1851 census aged 23, showing birth of around 1828 in St Marylebone, occupation is fishmonger and spouse Lavinia.

Please could anyone help getting this family back another generation, hopefully finding him on the 1841 census?

Thanks

This record probably relates to the above 1841 census ...

... but may not be the person you're looking for.

Do you have a marriage record showing the name of Edward's father?

Thank you,

I have nothing for Edward Cartey prior to the 1851 census, I know his wife was Lavinia Grossmith, only because her brother Samuel Grossmith was staying with them at the time of the 1851 census and his relation to head (Edward) is brother-in-law.

So have not found Edward and Lavinia's marriage or either of them on 1841 census. she is slightly older according to the 1851 census b.1824.

I believe that Edward and Lavinia had at least 4 children, one Edward born circa 1859 died 1909 is on 1901 census with his family

What other information do you have on this family ?

Hi louisa maude, thought the names rang a bell, another thread by OP titled "Lost family on census" which may offer clues?

Ancestry family tree shows 2 entries for this couple, no parents shown against Edward or his wife

Lavinia died in 1860 aged 36

Thank you for the assistance, definitely some new leads to investigate.

I think I found Lavinia overnight on the 1841 census, down as Livinia Grossmith, possibly a teacher of music!
