John Peverley of Darlington, Co Durham

Hi Everyone, My name is Peter Buckley and I am researching my family tree (Buckley/Stockdale) from the Darlington area. I have in my tree a John Peverley B:1809 (3rd GG). I presently have him married to Elizabeth Jupp B: 1802 in Darlington. I settled on Elizabeth Jupp because a John Peverley from Darlington married an Elizabeth Jupp in July 1827.  I also located a daughter of Elizabeth and John called Mary B: 1830 in Eldon, Co Durham. She married a William Sergison. They named one daughter Elizabeth Jupp Sergison B:1864 and one son Francis Peverley Sergison B:1860. Two unusual middle names. It has to fit.  I did originally have him married to a Elizabeth Makepeace
B: 1806, the daughter of Matthew Makepeace and Elizabeth Atkinson. Problem is, I cannot find any evidence such as birth details or marriage to John apart from a couple of Ancestry trees that Matthew and Elizabeth had a daughter called Elizabeth.  Does anyone know if my John Peverley actually married an Elizabeth Jupp or Elizabeth Makepeace? This will solve a great problem for me. Hope someone can assist....Regards Peter Buckley

If you are still unsure of Elizabeths maiden name after this info a Birth Cert of one of the Children born post 1837 will give you the closure you need.

An ELIZABETH Jupp was a Witness to 2 of them in 1826 before her 1827 Marriage I presume.
A MARY Jupp was a Witness to 2 of them 1828/1830 (on 1 John Penerley was also a Witness)
The last 1 is the Marriage mentioned, Johns name mistranscribed;
Mary may be Elizabeths Sister or Mother.

Hi Trish,  Once again, many thanks for your information.  The info you found me does match up with what I have on my Ancestry tree.  I am (I am decended from Thomas Mason Peverley and Sarah Roddam (2nd GGP)  I will look into the birth certificate angle as you advised.

I also have Francis Brotherton and Ann Mason (5th GGP) in my tree.  That's where the Brotherton and Mason second names come from I guess?....Francis Brotherton Peverley B: 1810 and a couple of Thomas Mason Peverleys' later on.  If you are interested my Ancestry tree is the Buckley-Stockdale Family.  Once again many thanks.....Peter

John Peverley mentioned in your request for information was my great-great-great-grandfather. I descend through his son Francis Brotherton Peverley, 1828-1864, who came to America in 1851.

I just read that you descend from Thomas Mason Peverley, younger brother of Francis Brotherton Peverley. Francis married Hannah Isabel Dutton but died in 1864 leaving her with several small children to raise.
I have a picture of John Peverley, Thomas Mason Peverley's father.
