Hello again Curley,
I was interested to learn that your father was William Burnett. I have a family bible dated 1754 from Ireland. It was brought to Canada in about 1832 with my great-great grandfather Samuel. It contains the names of whom I presume are his brothers and sisters, ei
George Burnett 1789-1804, John Burnett b Feb 4 1791, James Nov 4 1794-1821, Rachel Burnett 1800-July 2 1868, ???iam Burnett aft 1800, Samuel Burnett 1807-1895, Ann Burnett b1810, Adam Burnett b1816. I have no idea what the parents names were, but a family story states that there were three brothers who fought with William of Orange and were given 100 acres of land. My brother met an Alexander Burnett when he was visiting and Alexander claimed that he was farming a part of the original land grant. I believe Alex lived near Magherafelt. (Spring Bank Coagh???)
My ancester Samuel married Martha Cotten (Cotton) in Ireland before 1832.
Rachel married Hugh Homes and came to Canada between 1840 and 1850.
The mention of Cookstown and Ardtrea Parish in the bible gave me the clue to look in your part of Ireland.
I was very pleased to receive notice of the video clips of the Festival in Portadown in 1961. I wish you the very best for 2010.
