John's wife was Jane Hood but then things get a bit messy with one tree having him married to someone else before 1871 when he is still with his parents and single on the 1871 census.

Erm, no, he isn't single on the 1871 census - it clearly says widower.  When posting census details it would be appreciated if full details could be included ie. marital status, occupations etc. as these details can often be vital ........ please :)

They had a Daughter Harriet Jane unknown if she survived

She is most likely the grandaughter, Jane, age 3 b.Burmarsh in the 1871 census then.

Samuel AMON and Martha Jane REVELL married at Brabourne http://www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages/

You might like to keep an eye on the Hastingleigh pages where parish register transcripts for the East Ashford area are gradually being added http://www.hastingleigh.com/hast-other-parish.html

Marriage (1): RALPH, Jane on 10 Feb 1867 in Hythe,Kent,England
Marriage (2): REVELL, Martha Jane on 22 Oct 1871 in Brabourne,Kent,England
Looks like Harriet was the child being born at Jane Ralph's death in December, she would be 3 in 1871 if census was taken before December in that year.Wonder what became of her?

Harriett Jane (dau of Samuel and Jane) was baptised Lympne 12 Jan 1868 - she is more than likely the grandaughter listed as Jane in the 1871 census above age 3.  Her birth was registered in the December quarter of 1867 - the same quarter in which Jane, her mother died, so, yes, it could be that her death was connected with childbirth.

I can't see her after 1871 so perhaps she emigrated with her father, Samuel, and stepmother, Martha Jane ???

Firstly an apology re giving you half axed information re censuses.
Secondly Samuel is on the Taranaki Electoral rolls for quite a few years from memory. I didn't know whether you had them or not and were just looking for the UK records.
Third point, the NZ BMD registration numbers  do not necessarily reflect the year of BMD. A NZ researcher pointed that out a little while ago on these forums but I haven't bookmarked it.
Do you want the electoral roll info?.

crisane, yes please give me the electoral roll info, and hopefully Nellie is on that as well as she dissappeared after birth and only turned up at her death, but no exact certain dates for those only once again hand written from my mother (who was her grandaughter) from her memory, B about 1843 D about 1934, once again thanks to both you and casalguidi  :)   :)

There are quite a few of these records. I searched for Samuel Amon which brought up any Amon with Samuel in his name and also gives any other Amons living in the district. I'll leave you to sort them out. :)
You will get them in instalments as there are quite a few.
