William Root c.1838 Wakes Colne

Where has he and his family gone?
William married Rebecca Scillitoe 1857 and by 1861 they had Frances 2 and Elinor/Emily? aged 1mth living with Rebecca's mother Charlotte in Earls Colne.
1871 William now 34 Ag.Labourer and Rebecca 33, Frances 12, EMILY 10, Eva 7, George 6, Frederick 3 reside Cole Engaine/White Colne.
This is the last I can find of any of them except for---
Rebecca died later that year and daughter Frances died July 1873 buried Wakes Colne.

I have tried playing around with surname to no avail. Please can anyone help, surely they can't all just disappear.

Have you tried looking for possible marriages, I think the Colne's come under Halstead

I don't think they can all have disappeared and I can't find any of them in England so I've been looking further afield and I think I may have found them in South Australia. Using a combination of the Australia Birth , Marriages and Deaths Indexes on Ancestry , South Australia BMD records at http://www.genealogysa.org.au/resources/online-databases.html ( note this is a pay site , but searching is free ) and newspaper articles at http://trove.nla.gov.au/ I traced the following :

George Root m Katherine Copeland 1896 Adelaide
Emily Root m James Coen Frome 1880
Frances Root m John Giles 1883 Adelaide
Eva Root m 1893 Adelaide

In all of the above the father is a William Root.

William Root m Charlotte Ann Vick 1885 Adelaide ( William's father Samuel Root).

Frederick Root ( father William ) d 1878 Adelaide ( details of an accident which lead to his death can be found on Trove ( address given above ). He was 11 , ie b abt 1867.

I was unsure about this being the right family , particularly as you have Frances dead in 1873 , but I have now found a passenger list which seems to confirm. Unfortunately it's on FindMyPast's Australian site so I can only see the bare index but it lists Emily , Eva , Frances , George , Fred and William on the ship Forfarshire , sailing from Plymouth in 1876

That is amazing CB53 thank you so much for all the hard work.
There are too many coincidences for them not to be the right family, names, parentage, siblings and yes Williams father was Samuel Root.
Obviously I have the wrong Frances  dying in 1873 although right place, right age.

I will follow through with what you have found.
Thank you again for taking the time to find them for me.
