Yes it can work out very expensive especially Scotlands People if you live near Glasgow the Mitchell Library have a S P search room cost £15.00 for the whole day ...You can view the records and print off any copies for 50 pence ...They also have a section with the poor relief records worth a visit if you are near there  :)

I don't live in Scotland now , moved from Glasgow when I was just a wee lassie, but go back once year to visit family and also visit the Mitchell, which I love . If I lived in glasgow I think I would spend much of my days just visiting the Mitchell .

I found out quite a lot by looking at the poor relief records for my ancestors , so much information on them .

Like you I found out a lot on my husbands side of the family from the poor relief records it was amazing we had been searching for years .....The problem being Gt gt Grandfather had joined the army under an alias name and died in the Boar War found all this on the poor relief records it was like a Catherine Cookson Story  :) :)

Finally found my Henry Moore after years of searching.
Found him on the crew lists for years 1883/1885
He died by drowning in the River Elbe in Germany in 1885.
