Rogan family of Londonderry
« on: Tuesday 15 July 14 15:40 BST (UK) »
I am trying to get information about my great-grandmother, Margaret Rogan, born in 1838.  I believe she was the daughter of Dr. Francis Rogan (1787-1854) and his wife Margaret Erskine Rogan (died 1864 I believe.)  Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

An unusual name for that part of the world, but not a brick wall ! The 1831 heads of household census has just 6 mentions of Rogan for Co. Londonderry. No mention of a Francis but 2x Dr.,  one of whom is listed in Ferryquay St. [inside],meaning inside the city walls and the second in Pump Street.

The others for the record and possible relatives were John (Fahan Street), Mary (Priest's Lane), Mrs (Pump Street). The last was another John in Curran Village, Maghera.

Hope this helps.

Don't know if the name was Margaret or not, but a newspaper of the time definitely confirms that a daughter was born to the wife of Francis Rogan, MD, Derry, the DOB was 18 October 1838.

Edited to add:  Above information and lots more already posted on the following thread, which I see you picked up on:

Also, a search of the RootsIreland website index brings back 4 baptisms for parents input as Francis and Margaret Rogan, all County Londonderry: Margaret Erskine Rogen 1838; Bryan Rogan 1841; James Thomson Rogan 1842; Ada Frances Rogan 1844.

The transcribed record content is pay to view.

Hi,
To add to Gaffy's information and Aghadowey's earlier information - an entry in the Londonderry Sentinel of 18 Mar 1837 "At Edinburgh, on the 9th inst, Francis Rogan Esq., of Castlefin, M.D. to Margaret Erskine, daughter of Adam Crooks Esq., Glasgow."

On 28 March 1865, the younger daughter Ada Frances Rogan married the Rev. James Hill Tait, Aberlady, at Levan in Renfrewshire, his details at this link:
