Why two birth refs,same person,same year/qtr.
« on: Saturday 09 August 14 14:22 BST (UK) »
Can some kind person please put me straight on the following query.
Found the same person has two ww2 birth references together, same place, year, quarter, volume, pages, same mothers surname.
Extra christian name added on second one, with an ,,,A,,,added to page number.
Is this due to the added christian name or is it possibly adoption.
Unable to post details on here.
Any help appreciated,thanks Brionne.

Um hard to say without seeing it but possibly the extra name.  I would think the A was for an addition to the original rather than A for adoption  :)

Sounds like he was registered first with one name and then mum and dad realised they wanted him to have an extra middle name perhaps so they added it a few minutes later !

But after the registrar had already filled in the paperwork.

Or they made some alteration to the parents name on the cert.

There is no clue at all to the fact that someone was adopted in the indexes.
It will however have the word "adopted" in the margin of the actual cert if that was the case.

Page numbers suffixed with ‘a’ 'b' etc. in the GRO index normally indicate that the registration reached the GRO after the index for the relevant quarter had been prepared. These are sometimes known as supplementary or ‘late’ registrations.

The GRO births index gives no indication of adoptions. The addition of a second forename seems the most likely reason for the second registration in this case.
