BOWDEN Family Exeter
« on: Sunday 01 January 12 18:26 GMT (UK) »
My Family came from St Mary Major Exeter and lived there around 1810 my great-grandfather moved to Peckham and married Mary Graham 1867 and moved to Croydon. Hard to make out where the family lived from 1841 census something like 7 Hacey or Facey buildings. I understand that Bowden is a well known name in Devon. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank You Tony Bowden  South Norwood near Croydon

A Public online tree shows that David Bowden bc.1839 was the son of Richard Bowden and Sarah Dyer married ca.1829.

Richard Bowden bp.19/4/1807 Collumpton, son of David Bowden (wives names not shown).

The online tree states his parents were David Bowden and Faith Fry who it seems married 9/7/1795 Culmstock Devon (Faith shown on marriage record as 'Friday').

David and Faith are still living on the 1851 Census (ref.HO107-1888-238-8) and he is shown as bc.1763 Stoodleigh, Devon and she bc.1763 Culmstock.

Dear Annette & Linda,
Thank you so much for quick answers, so good of you to take the time. I have found I believe David Bowden was born in Exeter 20/10/1939 and was married 18/4/1867. I did not know the previous family history thank you Annette for that,  I will look into the site you kindly sent me Linda. Happy New Year. Tony

Thanks Again to those who answered my requests some time ago. Is St Mary Major actually part of Exeter or a suburb ?

St Mary Major was a church right next to the Cathedral in the centre of the city in its oldest quarter.

Putting in to a search engine brings up many hits, including:
