Hi again Jennifer

The line reads "1879 Nov 19th Dundee" the date of her parents' marriage.

I gave you some wrong info ... Annie didn't go to New Zealand via Canada. She Divorced her husband sometime before 1925 when he remarried.

Her parents from the 1904 Register of Marriage and 1901 Census are clearly Robert and Jane.

What do you make of the date of her birth?

I feel sometimes that I could throttle that Registrar if he were still around - or make him rewrite every single entry in the Registers :)

Regards

Hi all

Problem solved for Annie! She divorced James in 1924 and he remarried before emigrating to NZ with his new wife and their son. Her death is noted in 1983 here in Scotland  http://findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=131856528.  I've just checked on SP and the Register of Death confirms the date and in her maiden name.

Thanks to everyone for their help

Hi all

To complete Annie's story:
She was born 14 Nov 1880 in 51 Victoria Street, Dundee, Forfarshire, and died 14 Apr 1983 in Camus House, West Path, Carnoustie, Angus.  She married JAMES ANDERSON SOUTAR RODGER 30 Aug 1904 in Mather's Hotel, Dundee, Forfarshire, son of ROBERT RODGER and ISABELLA SOUTAR.  He was born 23 May 1877 in 61 Cowgate, Dundee, Forfarshire, and died Aug 1954 in Wellington, New Zealand.
She and James were divorced on 6th November 1924

Her Obituary from the ""Guide & Gazette (Broughty Ferry Guide : Carnoustie Gazette : Monifieth Advertiser)" Herald Press, Arbroath : Saturday, April 16, 1983
"Death of Miss Chaplain [sic]
Former Music Teacher was 102
One of Carnoustie's oldest inhabitants, Miss Annie Chaplain died on Thursday morning at the age of 102.
Miss Chaplain, a resident in the Camus House, old people's residence, was born in Dundee, but Carnoustie had been her home from the time she was a child.
She was educated at the local school before going to the London School of Music to study pianoforte.
An accomplished concert pianist, Miss Chaplain was always in demand to give recitals and to play at functions, such as dancing displays.
In later years she gave piano lessons in her home, and continued taking pupils until she was almost 90.
Miss Chaplain lived alone in her own home, Dewarlea, Kinloch Street, until three years ago, when she entered Camus House.
She was a member of the Erskine U.F. Church."
Annie was buried on 15 Apr 1983 at Shanwell Cemetery, Carnoustie, Angus
