newspaper excerpt - COMPLETE

Can someone please help me complete this transcript. The words in red, seem to be beyond me.

From the evidence, it appeared that Mr McLAINE
had had transactions with Robert HAMILTON, for-
merly a distiller, who was RICHMOND a large
sum of money. On one occasion, when pressed,
HAMILTON applied to McLAINE for a bill of £50, al-
though he was not due that amount. McLAINE
accepted a bill for £50, dated June, 1845, at six
months. HAMILTON did not put his name to it as a
drawer, but passed it to RICHMOND. When the bill
had run three months HAMILTON applied to McLAINE
for the amount of the bill. This request McLAINE
unfortunately complied with, and gave an order on
Mr ELDER, in favor of HAMILTON, for £50, and HA-

Just out of curiosity, what newspaper and year was it?  [I have a John Richmond who was a distiller.]

I am chasing John RICHMOND, born about 1796/1797, of Cuff, Ayrshire who migrated to South Australia in 1839.

So, far, I have not identified his ancestry.
