Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone could advise where the best place/sites are to research South African genealogy? I'm totally new to it and a bit stumped re where to begin!

If anyone could advise or has any tips that would be great - thank you!

Hi there, you can also try the NAAIRS site which can be slightly confusing till you get the hang of it. If you have any names, dates and/or places put them on here and someone will perhaps be able to get you going.

Hi Bramble

Do post your names of interest.  It can be a little frustrating because not everything is in one convenient place since Ancestry24 closed.  Those Rootschatters that have been around a while usually know where to find what and are all very helpful. :)

Good Luck

Hi all

Thanks for your replies!

The name I'm looking for info on is 'Westergaard'. I didn't realise records in SA would be so hard to track! So there are no sites that list BMD records from the end of 19th century/start of 20th?

Thank you :)

Hi

If you post more details such as first names and places of interest I am sure Rootchatters will be able to help.  There are a number of results for Westergaard in our Archives so names and dates will help to narrow down the search.

Here are the results in the archives, perhaps some of them are yours ;)

and this on Family Search

https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Awestergaard~%20%2Brecord_country%3A%22South%20Africa%22

Good luck
