army records prior to RFC

My grandfather served in the army prior to enlisting in the Royal Flying corps. in Jan 1916 and then joined the RAF in 1918.

Is there any way of finding out about his time in the army? I don't know anything about his time in the army.

You might find records on find my past or ancestry..  or if you want to post his name date of birth Im sure some rootschatters might be able to help

The RFC was part of the army, so his army record would follow him into the RFC and then into the RAF. If he was still serving after 1920 his record will be with the MOD.

Have you looked for his WW1 medal index card?

Thanks for your replies   His name was Herbert Frederick Bond service number 18372  I know that he was awarded a meritous service medal in June 1919 but I do not know when he left active service.

I have not been able to find a medal index card  but I have his RAF service record.
