Dayhouse/Dayus
« on: Sunday 02 February 14 10:39 GMT (UK) »

I am looking for a Dayhouse/Dayus family who lived in the Eaton and districts in Shropshire as Elizabeth has this parish on her marriage at Church Stretton.
The names are

Elizabeth Dayhouse circa 1740
Martha Dayhouse circa 1742
Anne Dayhouse circa 1745
Richard Dayhouse circa 1748

Having had the Church Stretton pr’s checked drew a blank with baptisms but found 3 of the 4 marriages

Elizabeth Dayhouse from the parish of Eaton by licence on 14 Sept 1762 m Thomas Mills, witness Thos Russell.   Address in 1779 was Church Stretton

Martha Dayhouse m Sam Croxton 10 Feb 1766, witness Benj Reynolds.   Address in 1779 was All Stretton and he was a yeoman.

Anne Dayhouse m David Rickards 17.05.1768 witness was Thomas Mills. Address in 1779 Church Stretton

Richard Dayus m Mary? Address in 1779 was Coalbrookdale not found his marriage though

The reason I know their whereabouts in 1779 is through an estate document.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Eileen ???

Hello Garstonite

I don't know why you gave me the LDS numbers as I had already given you the details of the PR on the marriages it's the baptisms I am interested in which didn't take part at Church Stretton.

Yes all three marriages took place at Church Stretton which I put on my posting but Elizabeth's marriage records show she was from the Parish of Eaton.

That's why I would like the registers checked in the vicinity if possible as I drew a blank on baptisms on the Church Stretton registers.

If it is of any interest, Sam Croxton is recorded in Hope Bowdler parish paying window tax in 1750.

The Croxton family were blacksmiths in Hope Bowdler from 1715 to 1941.

Richard Dayhouse is listed as a blacksmith in Coalbrookdale and "recently" erected a house there in 1807.

Thanks you both for the information.  It was indeed of interest.  On the Dayhouse/dayus I have now been given the baptisms of the 4 children and their parents.
