I see that a New Zealand newspaper carried a notice of their wedding - unfortunately though, it only names the father of Emily.

A search of Papers Past (search phrase: joseph bullock needham) finds 11 results. He is described as a 'Gentleman' of Invercargill in 1863.

In 1869 he was discharged by the Supreme Court (at Christchurch?). Insufficient evidence on a charge of forgery. Involved him having money belonging to the Trust and Agency Company.

[Relates to the trial and imprisonment of Emily Ann NEEDHAM.  The case against Joseph was dismissed. ]

"Star" (Christchurch, Canterbury) - 3 March 1869 - Supreme Court {{Search on : "Emily Ann NEEDHAM"}}.

[There are reports in other NZ newspapers about the 1869 case also - in one instance Joseph has been referred to as "Robert b. NEEDHAM" in error. ]

EDIT:  Will leave the above "Clara Newry NEEDHAM" info here BUT ... having found further info on her family (- her father was Frederick Miller NEEDHAM b. 1840  Devon, ENG, the s/o a clergyman Richard William NEEDHAM), I think it is simply coincidence that these NEEDHAM girls share the name "Newry".

Looking for the parents of Joseph Bullock Needham, born circa 1835 (country ?) my gg father, died 1913 Perth WA, married Emily Annie Haggitt 1868 Christchurch NZ, Children: Mary Ethel, Hilda Maud, Percy, Charles Augustus, Frederick, Arthur Noel (my gfather), Gertrude Anne, George.

Hi Ned ... can you clarify please, was "Arthur Noel" the same person as "Arthur Montague NEEDHAM" (birth reg. in NZ 1879) ??
