« on: Wednesday 29 October 14 13:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi  :)

In my family tree I have a lady called Rose Reilly her birth being  13th Aug 1922,

she was only 50 when she died , having married my Great Uncle Fredrick Lanes in Lincoln, England

1948,

She was Irish, I do not know anything about how she came to be in Lincoln,

my question is how would I go about tracing her family line with so little information.

The first step would be to get the marriage certificate, for her father's name.

I would also ask around the family to see if anyone has an inking as to which part of Ireland?

Northern Ireland only allows searches on births more than 100 years ago! ::)
You could try http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ - there is currently an embargo on Civil Records!

Hi Eilleen

How much do you really want to invest in this lady ?

Say you do get her marriage cert, and get her father's name and occupation you STILL won't be any nearer to finding her in Ireland.

1920 is not a great time to get Irish records ~ they are there but need more information to ensure that you are buying the correct one.

You would still need a mother's Christian and maiden name to be sure you were on the right tracks to try and find her birth cert.

Online Irish records for that time period do not list mother's maiden name against the birth records so you would be looking at getting EVERY birth cert to get a match to the father's name and occupation.

IF he was in a general occupation such as labourer then it would be VERY hard to know if you had in fact gotten the correct birth cert.

ALSO, at the time we had a lot of people registered as MALE / FEMALE so she may come under one of those.

You would also need to use name variants Rose / Roseanne / Rosemary ~ then surname, don't forget O'Reilly.

Again, it's up to you as to how much you want to invest to do this lady's tree.

Best of Luck

Tara

I'd be inclined to look for a death notice, it might give siblings or even parents names.

She died in Lincoln,so the death cert won't have any useful names, the informant may be a member of her family though.

I was thinking of newspaper notice.
If she had family in Ireland they might have put her death in the newspaper.

but the mother's surname is available in the GRO from about 1903 - you could put in a request for someone to have a look for you, maybe ...
