GRO (marriages)

When looking up the 2 halves of a marriage on the GRO index should I always expect the bride and groom to be on the same page? or could they be on adjacent pages?

Hi smouse

How are you accessing the GRO index?

Surname indexes for a particular quarter via Ancestry's site.

It's the pages thingy.

Try marrying (pun - it's too late to know if I intended it ) up the marriages on their Beta service.

From their front page go to Search BMD and then scroll down to England & Wales, Marriage Index: 1837-1983 (Beta)

You should be able to sort it from there.  Good luck

Think this is the index I was using.  I have the bride at "9a 152" and a possible groom at "9a 153" in the same district so what I need to know is if this could be a possible pairing even though the pages are not identical?

Alternatively it could be a coincidence  ???

Without names it's not possible for me to "see" what you are talking about, but I would encourage you to talk to the Local  Registry Office involved.  (let me know if you don't know how to contact them)

You should find them helpful and they should confirm over the 'phone the participants, their fathers names, any addresses etc., to verify they are the people you are looking for.

They will also arrange to issue the certificate to you, if it is the one you want.

Hope it all works out

Thanks for the extra info.  The district is Knaresborough.  If you have a contact for them that would be appreciated.

Hi Damian,

Well it looks like it's Claro, but my geography for Yorkshire is not that good, so I'm going to leave you with, how I find the Local Registry Offices, via www.genuki.org.uk  and the link I got to was:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0dn/

Hope it works for you, and you get a successful outcome

Wendi :)

Have modified link to gen uki as it was wrong.
