Actually the index cards at Woodhorn put Rimpside as SW of Hepple - this might help verify your location.

Christine

Yep that is where I have it after looking at the archives catalogue.

I will post a copy of the record next time I go to the library (won't be a while)

Thank you for your help with this
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

 History Trivia Angle.

In the 1745 rebellion, the Jacobites  originally intended to give battle to General Wade at
Rimside. Battle did not happen but Rimside gets "write-up" in the poem/ballad
"The Black Sow of Rimside and the Monk of Holy Island"

   Michael

I think Rimside and Rimpside are two different places  :-\

Rimside was north-east of Rothbury, and can be seen nicely on this map http://communities.northumberland.gov.uk/006946FS.htm

Rimpside was south-west of Rothbury. You can see what appears to be a farm building named Rimpside here http://maps.nls.uk/view/102346326#zoom=5&lat=802&lon=12589&layers=BT

JenB,

Thank you for posting the historic map of Rimpside. It has helped me find the area exactly on modern maps and I see there was actually a Rimpside Hill that I never found before.

Much appreciated

Credit where it's due - it was Gadget who reminded me a couple of days ago about these super maps and pointed out how easy it was to pinpoint places on them :)
