Some more info for your collection:

2nd Battalion Welsh Regiment:

August 1914 : in Bordon. Part of 3rd Brigade in 1st Division.
Landed at Le Havre 13 August 1914

If he died on the 30th Oct 1914 then it would most probably have been during the first battle of Ypres at a place called Gheluvelt.

The Germans tried to break the British lines in several places to split the Allied Army around the Ypres area. The battle of Gheluvelt (29-31 October 1914) was one of those assaults and featured the Welsh Regiment.

Hope this is of some use?

Trying to find any information on My GG Grandfather who served during the Great war. Tried looking for his service record but no luck. His name was William Porterfield and he served with the seaforth Highlanders. He survived the war.

Seaforth Highlanders

No: S/9614

Received the 1915 Star, British and Victory Medals
