Help with uniform
« on: Sunday 20 July 14 13:57 BST (UK) »
Is it possible for anyone to help to identify this first World War uniform please.

The photo is amongst the items we have from my Great Grandfather who served with the Argyll & Sutherlands and the Gordon Highlanders.  Is this uniform anything to do with these regiments?

The cap even without a badge is not that of A&SH or the Gordon Highlanders, Sadly there are no other identifiable insignia.

Hi, sadly I have to agree with James, there is nothing to aid identification.

Thank you for your help . I forgot to say that my Great Grandfather was also involved with the Royal Scot Greys, could this be the same cap?

A cap is a cap .
Scottish regiments wore a Glengarry
But with out a cap badge , the regiment  would be impossible to identify in this picture

a name and number should help
Pollard , Corns .................. Lancashire
Brannen Wexford
McHugh Co.Mayo
Perry , Stafford and Lancashire

Good evening,

The Scots Greys were cavalry so didn't wear glengarries. So a possibility but as others have said, with no insignia visible there is no way to tell.

My only thought would be ASC (army shaving corp)  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Only joking, John915

Love it!!  ;D ;D ;D

Kay2004, Do you think the man in uniform holding the shaving gear is your Great Grandfather?
Is this why you ask regarding a uniform ID?, do you have a photograph of your Great Grandfather? if not, could the man seated be him.

The fellow seated could be the regimental baker with his "whites"

Thanks for all the replies.  My Great Grandfather was a barber/ hairdressers before the war.
We think this is him holding the shaving  knife.  He was killed serving with the Gordon Highlanders, but have other paperwork and photos which confirm he was with the Argyll and Sutherlands and the Royal Scots.
