James Melrose Mary Ann Millward Completed thankyou
« on: Friday 14 March 14 19:40 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone could help and check deaths for me.  Mary Ann Millward was born 1836 At Kidderminster she married in Edinburgh to James Melrose and lived there.  I am unable to locate her death onSP.  James was born in Edinburgh 1830 and was no longer on the 1881 Edinburgh census, only Mary Ann and some children. She is not on 1891 or 1901 Edinburgh census. I am unable to find his death recorded on SP. Possibility that they died in Worcestershire?

Hi Mirrin

Considering they were well established there, I would of thought it unlikely they both died out of Scotland.....According to a tree found on A* (which has listed  her place & dob but not her surname)  they shifted to Glasgow Barony Lanarkshire where James died 1903 and Mary Ann in 1907.

Cheers

To fully state the Census' :

In 1891, James pob is stated as Edinburgh, Midlothian
The grand-daughter Mary W's**  place of birth is stated as Glasgow, Lanarkshire
The lodger (whose surname may be, but unlikely to be,  ROME as transcribed by A*) was stated as a Railway Porter, born Annan, Dumfrieshire). Lodgers should always be considered as potential family - hence providing  the enumerated details of the place of birth may or may not be a helpful clue in this regard.
And Blythswood is in the Glasgow Barony district, Lanarkshire
** I suspect this is actually Mary M on the original census. Per Scotlands People,  a free search of the index reveals a  Mary Millward MELROSE birth was registered 1886 in Anderston, Lanarkshire

In 1901, James pob is stated as Edinburgh, Midlothian.
Mary's pob is stated as England.
Grand-daughter Agnes' pob is stated as Drumchapel, Dumbartonshire.
Lodger James MUNRO is a Tailor, stated born  Thurso, Caithnesshire.
Lodger William PROUDFOOT is a Sailor, born Rosehall, Dumfriesshire.
(one wonders if the two lodgers are actually both tailors or both sailors - the T & S are often mistaken in these two words written on a Census)
