Help understanding a Traveller to West Africa.
« on: Wednesday 20 August 14 12:14 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Ok so i have the following individual;

June E Trippett (born 1921 in Leicester)

in 1944 she married a Patrick J Crean in Leicester (not sure of the church, this information was pulled from the indexes)

She has 2 children;

Anthony G. M. Crean (born 1945)
Hugh P Crean (born 1950)

On A* there is a passenger list, which is an incoming boat arrival from Lagos, Nigeria to Liverpool in 1948. It has only June E Crean (nee Trippett) and the only son at the time Anthony G.M. Crean.

I can't get my head around what is happening here; as the record says her permanent residence is in Nigeria and the proposed UK address is 41 Byway Road, Leicester. She was married in Leicester in 1944, had a child also in Leicester in 1945, and then the next thing you see is her coming back to the UK in 1948. I can not for the life of me see an outgoing passenger by either the name June E Trippett or Crean.

Can anyone shed any light?

On the same site Mrs P J Crean went out to Lagos on 31 Dec 1947  plus her son

Kay

Edit - Try searching on the site for Crean and any activity in Nigeria there are quite a few entries for Patrick

Ah, well thank you for that! I didn't think to search my husbands initials. Would you know why she would do that just after WW2? I can't find any reference to the husband going anywhere.

Once i am searching after your help i am finding these records! Maybe i've been looking at it too long.

On further trips his date of birth seems to be anything from 1906 to an exact date in 1910. Is it possible there are different P J Crean's? I can't seem to find a UK birth for anyone in that period; so i presume he was born elsewhere.

The journey's to and from Nigeria with middle intial P and  birth date 23 Sept 1910 look like the same person.

There also appears to possibly be another Patrick Clean born in Ireland about the same time

If your Patrick was Irish there is a possibility on the 1911 Irish Census

Those two do seem to link, but the initial post regarding the departure in 1947 has him down as approximately 1906 birth (Aged 41 in 1947)

Most of the other  trips confirm his actual birth date so maybe the 1947 age was a mistake?

At least the 1956 trip to Freetown confirms he was from Ireland.
