Hampson family - Runcorn watermen
« on: Monday 31 October 11 22:51 GMT (UK) »
I'm descended on my paternal Grandmother's side from the Hampson family who were a great dynasty of boatmen in the Runcorn area in the 1700's and 1800's.

If anyone has any Hampsons in their tree and would like to pool information I'd be interested to hear from them!

Hi Meezer,

The easiest way to make surname connections with other members is to enter your surname interests.
in the Surname Interests Table (SIT), and to check there whether others are researching these names.

This can be found at http://surname.rootschat.com/ , there is a link to it at the top of each Rootschat page.

The more people who enter their surnames, the more chance there will be of making a connection!

Jean

Hi Frank - oh he was the black sheep of the family and no mistake! Several wives indeed - a couple of them at the same time(!) Is he in your family tree also?

Do you know which Hampson family you descend from?  There is a few of us who have been researching the Hampsons for a couple years now.  We think they originate from one family, but we have not been able to prove that yet.

The line I am tracing is through James Hampson (1844) son of William Hampson (1808) and Hannah Hayes.  William Hampson was the son of Richard Hampson and Mary Roylance.

I would love to communicate with you!

I also have Hampsons, who were boatmen in Runcorn in the family tree - James Hampson b 1832/3. James Hampson married a Harriet Hampson (b 1834 Stockton Heath). Her parents were (I think) William Hampson & Jane Roberts (from Worsley) and I haven't been able to show any further family link (so far) between the two of them.

James Hampson was the son of John Hampson (b 1806 Runcorn) & Alice Booth. After John's death in 1841, she married Thomas Owen in 1847 and the 1851 census shows a household of Owens and Hampsons. Probably just a coincidence, or maybe it explains Robert Owen Hampson's middle name?

Hi there - I'm very interested in your reply as Harriet and James were my Great great grandparents - I have a photo of Harriet that may interest you. I will PM you and perhaps we can follow things up offline?
