Hi LizzieW,

Stockport St Mary, Stalybridge or Mottram would be the most likely I think.

Jean - the info on Ancestry states: burial: 27 June 1841 , Newton (near Ashton-under-Lyne), Cheshire, England.  Could he be buried in Hyde?

Lizzie

Modified - Just looked on Findmypast and they have a copy of the parish record which shows Burials in the Parish of Newton in Mottram, in the County of Cheshire.  With the exception of two, all the people listed lived in Newton.  One lived in Hurst and another in Stalybridge.  What a shame I wasn't researching my family history 50 years ago when we lived in the area ::)

Sorry Lizzie, I've just had a look at this link, and the burial could actually be at Newton St Mary - a lot of my family are there and I thought it was established later and should have checked:

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/newtonbyhyde.html

The Cheshire FHS should show what MI's have been transcribed - I don't think the one's at Newton have.

My family have confused me because they lived in Newton but still got hatched matched and despatched in Stalybridge!

Burials from St Mary's Newton in Mottram 1839-1844 from BTs are on microfilm at the Archives centre in Ashton.

Heatherjulie - Will the burials on microfilm show any more than the parish records on FindMyPast?  As I live in Hampshire, it's not possible to go to Ashton archives centre.

I wouldn't have thought that there would be more information. Next time I go in, if there is a reader available, I will try to remember to have a look.

Many thanks, I'm almost 100% sure the man who died and was buried in 1841 was my 3 x g.grandfather, but if you have time and can have a look at the record, I'd like to know if it gives any info, say his wife's name Frances.  I know someone called Elizabeth registered his death and I'm assuming she was his 2nd daughter who was about 21 at the time.

Hi Heather

Thank you very much for that.  I'm sure that must be my 3 x g.grandfather, although according to his baptism record he would have been 42, not 44.  I suppose it's always possible he was 2 years old when baptised.  It's a shame the death records don't show relatives.  I've rarely found any parish records that do.
