Hi
i'm looking for help in finding the birth ie parents etc of William Lewis born in Northwich about 1815. He married Elizabeth Thomas in 1853 in Presiegne Wales and later moved to Scotland. He was an inland revenue officer. I,m finding great difficulty in finding out he actually date of birth and parentage so any help will be appreciated.

i should have mentioned that i got the information about his place of birth from the 1861 census. I can find reference to lots of William Lewis's but none matching the timescale in Northwich.

yes that is the family. After living in Aloa , scotland , they then moved to hackney.

If it is possible that he was born in shropshire and not cheshire as stated on the census , then how could an error like this have occurred. Having said that , his son Walter stated that his place of birth was hackney , whereas he was born in scotland but grew up in hackney.
doesn't make research easy

Well it doesn't seem much of an "error" when you consider that the post 1837 Registration District of Whitchurch Shropshire included places such as Malpas Cheshire.
