Greens, America Place S. Leighton Buzzard
« on: Tuesday 01 May 12 19:14 BST (UK) »
My g.g.g. grandfather, George Green a wheelright, and his eight children in the 1841 census resided at America Place S. Leighton Buzzard.  I presume the S stands for South.        Two of his children,  William and my g.g. grandfather James, also wheelrights had moved to Anglesey, Wales, by the 1851 census and had settled down & married two local girls.     I was wondering if America Place S was still there so I could see it on Google street map or if anybody has any information about the family.      Thanks for your time.

  Hi

America Place is no longer around. An early map of 1819 lists an America Gardens and by 1880 America Row appears all in the same area.
On a present day map the area would been around Garden Hedge and Beaudesert.
On the 1851 census the words appear Lancasterian School very faint this used to be on the coner of Beaudesert and East street and was the very first school I attended. From 1930's onwards the area was rebuilt with council houses. The school was also demolished for housing.

Thanks for that Tazzie, very good of you to take the time and trouble.  The problem I have is that I dont know where George Green was born as I cant find him after the 1841 census to get his place of birth or his wife's details as she is not on the 1841 census.  Anyway back to the drawing board.   Thanks again.      Gwyn

  Hi

I am struggling to find any of them in 1851 census.
There are 3 deaths in Leighton Buzzard for George's pre 1851.
One is interesting as it is for George Finney Green.
George Finney Green marries Sarah Foster in 1838 in Ivinghoe so I wonder if this is the son and his wife as shown in the 1841 census living with George snr the extracted record show his father to be a George.
A George Green marries Mary Finney in Edlesborough in 1811 is this George snr and his wife?

Hi,   Well spotted Tazzie & thanks for that.  I now have the GRO ref for the marriage of George Finney Green & Sarah Foster in 1838 so will apply for it and see where we go from there.    I might also apply for the birth certificate of a Mary Ann Green b 1839 in Leighton Buzzard who could be the youngest daughter  of George Green snr.     Thanks again for your help.     Gwynd

  Hi

The Mary born @1838 is the daughter of George jnr and Sarah..
  1851 census Ivinghoe Bucks

 Sarah Green hd w 32   b Ivinghoe
Mary Agnes Green dau u 11 b Ivinghoe
Her birth is Leighton Buzzard 1839 qt Apr/May /Jun
baptised Ivinghoe 7 July 1839 father George mother Sarah
There is a Mary Green death in 1837 but name is not uncommon so just possible.
