anybody know about heligoland?
« on: Wednesday 12 August 09 19:01 BST (UK) »
My greatx2grandfather was born in Bristish Heligoland and was registered a british subject according to the census.  His name was James Black and he was born about 1821.  His father's name was Frederick and we don't know where he came from although there are 2 theories.  my mother told me that  a great aunt said they came from Oban.  Other members of the family were told their name was Schwartz and they changed it.  James was in anglesey in the 1840's helping to build the Britannia Tubular Bridge, and he married a welsh girl and stayed in Menai Bridge.  I would love to find some info about his background.
