Death at Bondi
« on: Wednesday 16 April 14 22:07 BST (UK) »
Doing this for a friend who has short arms and long pocket's which doesn't help. ::)

Looking for his Uncle Micky.

Micheal Stevenson b 1920's or 1930's New Zealand Son of William Ellison Stevenson and Marion Ogier. The story is he committed sudice at Bondi Beach between 1960 and 1965. I have searched Death's and nothing. I have searched Trove but coverage ends before the years i want. I found nothing. Where can i go from here??? Any help and advice would be most appreciated. Sorry not much to go on but thought i would give in a go anyway.
 Many Thanks
             Carol

Hi Carol, If Michael died by drowning and his body was never found, there would be no death certificate issued. This occurred in my family and the Registrar told me that if there is no interment there is no certificate issued. Fran

Perhaps some coverage in the Sydney Morning Herald?    (School holidays at present, and I have teenagers visiting, they are very tech savvy !)

An alternative location to consider might be The Gap at Watson's Bay, an infamous suicide point and not so far from Bondi Beach that they wouldn't be confused over time.

Not near Bondi but still in NSW and the right time frame:

Name:   Michael John Stevenson
Death Date:   13 Oct 1962
Cemetery:   Lawn Cemetery Casino
Section:   New Anglican
Cemetery Location:   Casino, New South Wales
Grave Place:   Row B Plot 36A

Ancestry also shows several entries for Michael/Micheal Stevenson born in the right time and getting married in the 1960s.  Any chance he just disappeared and returned to NZ?  Had he come here by himself or did his parents bring him across?
Researching: Cronin / Nolan - Gortadrislig, Kerry
Finn/Clifford - Callinafercy and Scort, Kerry
Spillane - Milltown
Also:- Byrne / Tyrrell - Dublin

This Michael had parents (JM has deleted their names from this quote).

NSW BDM has that death registration indexed and displayed online, parents full given names included on the index.   Threads at RChat are easily found via Google searching, even by persons who are not currently logged on to RChat, as RChat is a public forum.

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/bdm_fh.html

The parents may well still be living, and we have no way of associating this person to the death at Bondi.

Cheers,  JM
