Joseph Skillen & Eleanor Miller of Whitehaven
« on: Friday 25 July 14 00:23 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks,

Is anyone researching the above couple?

I found a death cert. for Joseph among my own info. & thought I would post what I have.
I have done a wee bit of research to add & hope I have the correct person?

I believe Joseph Skillen b c1900 married Eleanor Miller 1st qtr 1921 in Whitehaven, Cumberland.

I believe they had a son born last qtr 1921 in Whitehaven.

Joseph was a Private in 833 Coy, Pioneer Corps. His No. T/130911

When Joseph died his wife Eleanor was still alive & living at 36 Tynwald Street, Douglas, Isle of Man.

Joseph was killed in 1943 & I can forward the details.

Found this link: http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/famhist/genealgy/ww2.htm

If you scroll down to:

1944:
Dec. 1942 to Nov. 1943.

It reads:
SKILLEN, J., Private, Pioneer Corps, 36, Tynwald Street, Douglas - Died following accident in: Faroe Island:, July, 1943.

He may have been brought ashore ? There is no other info. but there is a note on the death cert. to say there was a Corr. Entry which I assume to be Coroner's Entry which would have to be paid seperately for.
