Hello all. I've done a bit of research on this, my maternal family. John Scanlan senior was an Irish military sergeant from Galway in Ireland. His military record states that he served with three regiments. John married Hannah in Mancetter in 1800 and she seemed to return there after his death to remarry. There is some discrepancy in the records but it appears that a John Scanlan died 1810 and is buried in st helier. I think this ties in with a John Scandlon born Galloway [mispelling of Galway I believe]. I have his military record. John Scanlan junior, Nicholas scanlan and William scanlan all served in the army. Charles and Robert appear to become miners.
