Cater &/or Margerson families
« on: Friday 11 November 11 12:39 GMT (UK) »
HI,

I hope some help with the following can be given.

A John Cater  and  Marthe Margerson were the parents of;
Charles   b. abt 1803  in Ashill, Norfolk
Maria       b. 7 April 1804  Ashill
Ellen        b. 17 Feb 1807 Ashill
there was another child

My hope is that a marriage date can be found for John & Martha and, ideally something of their background eg  where from, when born, parents etc.
Any help with either surname would be appreciated

Hello Suz,  thanks for the quick reply.

I had not found a birth or baptism record for a Harriet but had come across the 1851 entry you mention and because of the lack of birth/bapt' info was a little doubtful about her especially when the "in laws" ages seem to jump quite significantly
1841
John 65  Martha 60  then in
1851
John 80  Martha 74

I would still like to thank you for the effort & time  you've taken on my enquiry

Hi,

Don't forget ages were rounded down to nearest 5 years in 1841
John is age 65 in 1841 so he could be age 65-69. Assuming he was 69 then being 80 in 1851 is very possible

Martha is age 60 in 1841 so she would be between age 60-65  - assuming she was 64 then to be 74 in 1851 is spot on

on familysearch there is a pedigree resource file
Member submitted - so needs further research to verify

but it has

Harriet Cator baptised 9 Aug 1818 Ashill
married Isaac lambert 28 Jun 1838
died E Dereham Norfolk
buried 3 Sept 1891 Ashill

father John Cator b.c.1769 buried 14 sept 1851 Ashill
Mother Martha Margetson b.c.1774/5 Walton Norfolk buried 5 May 1851 Ashill

John Cator married Martha Margetson 18 Oct 1802 Ashill

so it may be worth looking at parish registers around those dates
