Charlie Bird - RNLI Blackpool
« on: Monday 06 September 10 23:03 BST (UK) »
I'm Wondering if anyone out there can assist me with some info.
Years ago my gran told me about a relative she used to visit on holidaywho she called "Uncle Charlie Bird", who lived in Blackpool. Apparently he was some sort of Marine Pilot / Fisherman, whom also served with the RNLI.

Yes we all Have these types of stories, where a distant relative is given one occupation or story and ends up being another! - but i would love to separate fact from fiction.

I believe the chap grandma was talking about was actually a much older cousin, called Charles Bellamy Bird, who was born in 1893 in Fylde, and in 1915 married a lady called Nancy. his occupation at marriage was given as Fisherman and he lived at 75 Sager Terrace.  Granma also stated that he was some sort of "Port Pilot"- can anyone help???

Thanks for taking the time to read this
Regards
Betton

i have just tried to find both him and his father james (b.1866 Hoylake Cheshire) in 1911 with no success - they must have both "gone fishing" that night!

Hi,
Possibly on the "Sunbeam" age 19, born Fleetwood,  as a 3rd hand 1st Feb-12 Jul 1911 under Master, James Bird of 75, Blakiston St, Fleetwood. ( his father?)
If he was in the RNLI then ther might be records on National archives site.
Best wishes,
Cathy

HI again,
There is a Bird family living at 75,Blakiston Street, East Fleetwood in 1911 that tallies with the same family in 1901 living in Fleetwood and includes head James born Hoylake and a Charles B aged 8.  1901   Rg13/3976  95/14
Also in the addresses 1901 there is a Blakiston Street East, Sagar Terrace, Fleetwood so obviously same road or part of road.
If you d like a transcription of the 1901 census please ask.

Cathy :)

Hi,
They were on the crew lists and the voyage seems to be over the census date so i would think they were at sea when the census was taken, there are a couple of similar entries on the Sunbeam for 1911 and 1912.
I expect you ve seen the family trees on Ancestry.co, there are about nine!
