Weems/Wemyss Stranraer & Dumfries & Galloway
« on: Tuesday 05 February 13 18:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi folks I hope someone can advise,

my family on one side goes back to James Weems born 1700 in Stranraer and he married Jean Semple in 1726, I have this confirmed.

does anyone know how the Weems/Wemyss family made the transition pre 1700 to Dumfries & Galloway.

One theory thrown at me was Bishop Henry Weems of D & G 1526 and somehow a line started there.

If true how could this be as it was pre reformation circa 1560 and he would come under the rules of The Roman Catholic Church and therefore not allowed to marry or have children or was this allowed.

Thoughts would be appreciated.
