Banbridge Tutorials William Jardine/Jardin
« on: Monday 25 February 13 22:45 GMT (UK) »
Have found my Great Grandparent Robert Jardine b 3rd June 1836 d 10 Jan 1901. He married Eliza Jane Adams on 30th January 1857 in Drumgooland, Eliza b c1837 d 4th March 1886. They had the following children:
Eliza Jane b1864, William A b1867 d1950, Martha Mary b1869 d1951, Samuel b1874 d1961, David b1877.
Eliza Jane Adams`s father was William Adams, Robert Jardine`s father was William Jardine/Jardin, there may have been a Scottish connection to William Jardine. Some of the areas this family were associated with are Garvaghy/Dromara, Drumgooland, Aghaderg.

What I can`t find is the  wives of William Adams or William Jardine/Jardin
Can anyone help, thank you.

Possible son Robert who was baptised 30 May 1872 was born 11 March 1872.  Also another daughter Sarah Jane born 7 November 1879.  William,Martha,Robert and Samuel were all listed as born in Crossgar District  while David and Sarah were born In Garvaghy.

Griffiths Valuation has a William Jordan farming 27+ acres in the townland of Fedany, parish of Garvaghy, also a Robert Jordan nearby farming 14+acres.

No doubt you're aware of wills on the PRONI website for the following:

The Will of William Jardine late of Fedney County Down Farmer who died 14 October 1893 at same place was proved at Belfast by David Jardine of Fedney Farmer one of the Executors.

...and:

Probate of the Will of Robert Jardine late of Garvaghy County Down Farmer who died 10 January 1901 granted at Belfast to Robert Jardine Farmer.

(Edited to add: also will index entries for William John Jardine of Fedney died 1909 and David Jardine of Fedney died 1917)

But also note the will for a "Jardine alias Garden Robert".

"The Will of Robert Jardine otherwise Garden late of Fadney in the County of Down Farmer deceased who died 20 April 1864 at same place was proved at Belfast by the oaths of Alexander M'Ilroy of Balloolymore (Katesbridge) John Gracey of Carnew (Garvaghy) and William John Jardine of Fedney (Garvaghy) all in the said County Farmers the Executors."

Given the name and location details it is possibly a relative (eg. an uncle or cousin, maybe the "Robert Jordan" mentioned in Griffiths Valuation?).

Anyhow, worth banking for the moment.

Thank you all, I did know that on the date that David was born 1877 another child was born, (a twin? ) but appears not to have been named, maybe died at birth. Great info from the wills, will take a closer look.

Would you have any records for a Jane Jardine, born about 1821 in Co. Down.  She Married George French about 1838.
Both died in the Banbridge area, Jane in 1886 and George in 1879.
They had 8 children between 1838 and 1855.

I am looking for a birth record for Jane and who her parents are and if she had siblings.

I cannot find a record of their marriage and I am just guessing at 1838.

Thank you,

Roy French

William Jardine's wife was Martha Reid - sorry but I don't have my source to hand.  William was a brother to Robert, died 1864.
